Nuts are common fasteners in mechanical equipment, typically used with bolts or screws of the same specifications and direction of rotation. Based on the direction of thread rotation, nuts can be divided into right-hand nuts and left-hand nuts. So what is a left-hand nut? How does it differ from a regular nut? 1. What is a Left Threaded Nut?

A left-hand nut is a nut with a left-hand thread structure inside; it can also be called a reverse-thread nut, a reverse-thread nut, or a left-hand nut.

Regular right-hand nuts are usually tightened clockwise and loosened counterclockwise, while left-hand nuts are tightened in the opposite direction:

Also, note the following:

  • Do not force a left-hand nut onto a right-hand bolt.
  • Install according to the specified tightening torque to avoid over-tightening.
  • Clearly mark "LH" or "left-hand" on equipment drawings and maintenance instructions.
  • During maintenance and disassembly, operators should be reminded that the loosening direction is clockwise.
